Acquire an Australian Tourist Visa and Travel to the Land Down Under

By Jo Alelsto

Commonly referred to as "The Land Down Under", the continent of Australia is viewed by many to be among the most exciting and diverse tourist destinations in the planet. The continent continues to attract hundreds of thousands of tourists annually, who visit its lovely white-sand beaches, stunning natural landscapes, exciting adventure destinations, exotic food and cultural amenities, as well as first-class tourist accommodations. Those who wish to visit this lovely continent may do so by acquiring an Australian Tourist Visa, and one could get this either by asking for help from a local travel agent, or by personally visiting the nearest Australian Visa center. You may also avail of this entry requirement online, by logging on to the official Australian Visa online website.

Australia is a continent with a very low population density. It has a combined population of around only 21.3 million, with most of the population living around the state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, as well as in Canberra. Recently, immigration has been a vital factor in the nation's development. Around six million immigrants from different corners of the planet have come to call this land home, along with 517,000 Aborigines, who are the nation's biggest minority group. Whites account for an estimated 95% of the population, and are generally of British descent. It is also noted for having one of the world's highest living standards. This is also of unique and contrasting patterns. While lush vegetation ranges from the rain forests of the far north, it's as dry and sandy as it gets in the deserts and steppes of the vast interior, also known as the Outback. The continent is also famous for being the home of around 130 species of marsupials like koalas, kangaroos, and wombats.

Applying for an Australian tourist visa could be done by mail as well as on the internet. The fees or applicable charges may differ when applying either by mail, online or by going direct to an Australian consular office. The most common visa issued by Australian immigration authorities, is the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) visa, which lasts for up to 3 months, as well as a tourist visa that allows the visitor to stay up to 12 months. Once you fill up an application form and pay the necessary fees, you should now be able to acquire the tourist visa, once it's approved. Ensure that you print all the documents you receive, and bring this along with your other pertinent travel papers. Before getting a visa, make sure that your current passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of your departure, to prevent you from being barred by Immigration officers, as well as prepare your passport requirements in advance with your local or international carrier when booking for a flight to the Land Down Under.

In addition, tourists are also advised to get their own health insurance coverage before visiting Australia, as most visitors will not be covered by the country's universal health care program, and medical care expenses are high here as well. For those who also come and go frequently, its advisable to get a multiple-entry visa, as this will enable visitors to enter and exit the Australian border more than once. Overseas students who do not plan on studying longer than 3 months may also use tourist visas to achieve this objective. Visa applications from the United States are rarely denied; however you need to apply early for your visa, or ask your travel agent to do this, because you may need extra time to appeal should your initial visa application be rejected.

Jo is a content writer for 'Visas for Australia' (http://www.visasforaustralia.co.uk), one of the world's leading visa specialist that deals with Australian tourist visas, Australian business visas and Australian working holiday visas. If you are going to travel and request for an Australian tourist visa or if you wish to feel the joy and thrill of living in or realizing your goal to travel Down Under then you should have a look at Visas for Australia.

Washington DC Group Travel Guide

By Jeff Gayduk

Washington, DC was originally established by the Constitution of the United States in 1789. George Washington, the nation's first president and figure in which the city was named after, chose the land where the city would originate. The area adjoining the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers was chosen because it was already a bustling port for tobacco and wheat shippers. More importantly, it was an area that was centrally located between the North and the South. Revel in the genius of Shakespeare through more than 100 magnificent presentations during this unprecedented festival in Washington. An often overlooked fact about the state of Washington is that while its western half experiences record-breaking rainfall each year, its eastern half is high-desert country. The magnificent Cascade Ranges separate the state into these two extremes.

Washington D.C. is an amazing reflection of the nation it represents. As the capital city of a country, which is the biggest "melting pot" in the world, it truly does offer visitors a glimpse of American culture and subcultures at their finest.

Leaders from all over the world convene in this city to discuss business and politics, as well as to socialize. As a result, you can find activities, restaurants, and attractions that not only provide insight and education to those who visit, but also offer a cultural experience unlike any other. Discover a variety of dining options that satisfies tastes across all palates. Where else can you sample Ethiopian cuisine, catch a Washington Nationals baseball game, and walk along the Potomac while the cherry blossoms are in bloom, all in one afternoon?

The Five Best Beaches of the Dominican Republic

By Paul Michael Collins

Make the Most of Your Caribbean Trip

For sun-worshippers and beach-lovers, not much can compare with a week or two's holiday in the Caribbean. But even here, in this tropical Garden of Eden, the Dominican Republic is exceptional. And what makes it so special is the 1,000 miles of beaches that line its shores. Gorgeous strips of blindingly white sand, sparkling cobalt blue waters... It's not so much a holiday, as a trip to paradise!

So without further ado, here are the five best beaches of the Dominican Republic:

Bayahibe

On the south coast of the Dominican Republic, lavish hotel complexes jostle for the best access to Bayahibe's beach - one of the best beaches in the whole of the Caribbean. As well as the hotels, there's a charming little fishing village nearby, and a number of natural parks.

Offshore, beyond the totally transparent water flashing with tiny fish, a couple of islands complete a wonderful scene.

Sosua

On the north coast of the island, despite being one of the very best beaches in the Dominican Republic, Sosua doesn't suffer from the over-development you can find elsewhere in the Caribbean. With fewer tourists, it's got a lively local feel to it.

Juan Dolio/Santo Domingo

There's nothing like lying on the beach all day and then having access to all the restaurants and lively nightlife that a city can offer. Good city beaches are hard to come by, though, and that (at just 25km from the capital of Santo Domingo) is what makes the beach of Juan Dolio so special.

Las Minitas/La Romana

Between Santo Domingo and Bayahibe, whichever way you look at it, Las Minitas is a great beach. Not far from La Romana, it conveniently combines great sand with some nice bars and restaurants, and a variety of water sports options.

Cap Cana/Punta Cana

The beach of Cap Cana at Punta Cana is quickly becoming one of the most fashionable enclaves in the whole of the Caribbean. As broad as it is long, swaying coco palms rise languorously out of the white sand, and provide shade from the gloriously hot sun.

As is the case throughout much of the rest of the island, 'sights' are few and far between. Which means there's little else to do but lie back in the sun (or in the cooling shade of a palm tree, perhaps) and take in the idyllic scene that's laid out in front of you.

The Dominican Republic - A Caribbean Gem

By Barry Brooke

The Dominican Republic is a land of many influences and rich in heritage. African, Haitian, French and Spanish cultures weave together to make a tapestry of beauty, grace and above all azure waters, soft sand beaches and fun in the sun for everyone.

When Christopher Columbus first set foot on this gorgeous Caribbean island, he could only describe it as a beautiful island paradise with high forested mountains and large river valleys.î Not much has changed since 1492 in the Dominican Republic. It still beckons visitors that want a tropical holiday filled with exquisite cuisine, entertainment and sightseeing adventures along with a rich culture in which they can immerse themselves.

Regions of The Dominican Republic

Six regions with distinct environments will refresh mind, body and soul. Your senses will soar as you discover an arid desert, pristine beaches, colorful coral reefs, thriving jungles, a pine forest and looming mountains. All coexist in harmony in the magical land called The Dominican Republic.

The central region is said to have some of the most fertile and green lands in the country. La Vega and Santiago are two of the towns and the Cordillera Central mountain range competes with the lush Cibao Valley for beauty. Nature lovers, adventurers and cigar aficionados are in their element in this region.

The north Coast also referred to as the Amber Coast or the Discovery Coast. This is the region where Columbusí crew first landed. Sosua, Cabarete and Puerto Plata are cities that can be found in this area. Verdant jungles, golden beaches and crystal blue waters make it the countryís most multi-faceted playground. Watch kiteboarders and windsurfers display their talent or try one of the sports for yourself.

Discover the wonders of the north east coast and Samana Bay where whale watching tours almost guarantee a sighting. Punta Cana is found on the east coast and is a popular area for tourists and contains the nationís National Park. The south west coast found west of Santo Domingo and has an ecology that is most diverse and is an undiscovered treasure to most visitors.

Each region provides visitors with unique experiences so it feels as if you are visiting many lands instead of just one. Go Rving in the desert, spend the afternoon swimming and sunning the crystal clear waters, dive or snorkel to see fabulous creatures amidst the coral reefs, take a walk through the mysterious jungle and see wildlife and birds you can only see in the rainforest. Enjoy the cool quietness of the pine forest and hike trails in the rolling mountains.

Cheap Las Vegas Vacation Packages

By Robert Grazian

The main tourist attractions of Las Vegas are its casinos and excellent nightlife there. The city hosts some of the most famous casino hotels in the United States. Large amounts of money change hands in these casinos. Cost of living for a tourist can become very high in this city. But also, there are tourist facilities in the city that are unbelievably cheap. Here are some tips to enjoy the charm and specialties of Las Vegas without wasting much money.

Expedia.com

The first thing one should do to save money when touring Las Vegas is to have some discount coupons to be used on restaurants and motels. There are several websites that provide free coupons. Some websites offer discount coupons for a nominal charge. One can find such websites through a search on Google using simple keywords like "discount coupons for Las Vegas." One has to check also for discount coupons in leading travel magazines. Almost all hotels in the city have an adjoining casino. A majority of hotels in the city also have some kind of attraction along with them. Golf clubs, amusement parks, or water fountains are the most popular attractions. Enjoying these attractions are free for people staying in the hotels that arrange these facilities. Bellagio Fountains and Bellagio Gardens are free not only for people staying in Bellagio hotel but also for the passerby and other onlookers. The other free attractions include Caesars Palace Statues, Artwork at the Venetian Hotel, Lion Habitat at MGM Grand, White Lions and Shark Tank at the Mirage, and Circus performance at a hotel called Circus Circus.

There are comparatively cheap hotels in Las Vegas. One should remember that the hotel rates are dynamic. That means the rates keep changing with the availability factor. Demand drives the price up. During weekends and holidays people come to Las Vegas from all corners. So there will be a heavy rush and the hotel prices will be high. But on weekdays, especially during mid-week, there will be fewer numbers of people visiting the city and as a result, the rates of accommodation will be lower. The main area of Las Vegas, the heart of the city, is known as the Strip. Hotels on the Strip are naturally costlier. But if you choose hotels in downtown, which charge slightly lower rates, you may have to spend more money for hiring cabs and taxis. The restaurants in the town are generally expensive. But one can find some inexpensive restaurants on the Strip and plenty of such restaurants off it. But if you consider the time spent for reaching the downtown restaurant and travel charges are worth the discount, then it is better you go for it.

Spring Break 2009 - Cheap Spring Break Packages

By Lincoln Davis

Getting a cheap trip for spring break 2009 can often be linked to how early you reserve the package. These types of trips are promotion and incentive based unlike summer travel. This means good news for the college student since they can save alot of money by booking early. Booking early for spring break typically refers to six months prior. Only New Years has a larger pre-book window. You will notice that some agencies offer free summer trips and other incentives to those students that book prior to a certain date for spring break. Do not wait until the law of supply and demand kicks in. If you do, you will probably only receive the package you booked, and not all the perks and additional trips given to those that booked early.

Another way to secure a cheap spring break trip is to book in large numbers. If you organize a group of twelve or more, you will often receive a group discount. This discount would only apply to the group leader, but that person can usually divide it with the entire group. This allows everyone to receive a discount on their purchase price. Once again, group discounts only apply when you book spring break trips early. Their is no reason to offer group discounts in December, January, and beyond because most agencies are booking hundreds of students during this time period.

Next, consider an all inclusive spring break package. They may seem more expensive at first, but they typically save everyone alot of money in the long run, especially when it comes to bar tabs. You will save money on the extra things when it comes to an all inclusive trip. Alcoholic drinks, food, banana boat rides, scuba and snorkel rentals, parasailing, and parties(just to name a few) can all be included in the price of the vacation. If you are going to do these things, it's often better to choose this type of vacation package.

Last, don't be persuaded to buy travel insurance and other additional features that can inflate the per person price for everyone in your group. Most agencies have their own security features in place to offset a problem. Additional insurance is typically not needed since most agencies will refund all or part of your initial payment if you cancel the package prior to a certain date. If the flight or cruise is cancelled then you would obviously get your money back as well.

Spring break 2009 does not need to be a drain on your bank account. Do your research and find cheap spring break vacations that suit your budget and the budget of your friends. Try to book spring break trips in October for the following year. This is typically the time when most agencies start their promotions. This will ensure you get a room at the most popular hotels. It will also ensure you take advantage of all the perks and promotions available.

Holidaying in Dubai

By David Collins

Dubai, playground of the millionaires, is the most populous of the United Arab Emirates and a city that has grown considerably due to tourism. Each year, thousands of tourists are drawn to the white sandy beaches and vast range of boutiques and market stalls that Dubai has to offer.

Throughout the years Dubai has become more tourist-orientated, with a number of luxury hotels and beach villas taking their place amongst the desert sands, offering a wide range of activities and the chance to experience the sights, sounds and flavours of the Middle East.

Boasting some of the world's tallest buildings - including the Burj Al Arab, the tallest hotel in the world - and a vast coastline with man-made islands that give you some privacy in paradise, Dubai is a haven for those who have money to spend, taking advantage of cheap flights to visit the resorts in the desert.

The city lies within the Arabian desert, with a vast coastline that offers opportunities for some delightful diving excursions in the Arabian Sea. The warm climate and Indian Ocean currents have lead to the forming of vast and colourful coral reefs, offering divers and snorkellers alike a chance to observe sharks and rays in their natural habitat.

If you'd rather ride the waves than take the plunge, there are a number of watersports centres along the coastline, offering the chance to jet-ski or parasail on the clear blue ocean. There are a number of water parks available for family excursions, as well as number of extreme sports clubs that offer activities such as skydiving. Dubai has also become a popular destination for those looking to take in a round of golf, with more lush green courses having sprung up in recent years.

As you'd expect from a city in the middle of the desert, the weather is perfect for those who are looking to catch a tan, but there's a lot more to Dubai than the beach resorts and gold shops. For those looking to cool off a little, the Dubai Ski Centre offers the chance to chill out and go skiing, in the middle of a desert? Sounds bizarre, but it certainly attracts a lot of tourists to the region each year. Flights to Dubai are now more frequently available from most UK airports, with the city also acting as a popular stopover on long-haul flights.

Dubai also has a vast range of shopping complexes for you to explore, filled to the brim with boutiques and shops selling everything from gold to electronics. The city has become popular for weekend breaks and honeymoons, with more flights now available from UK and an abundance of holiday packages available for those who are looking to kick back and relax in the resorts dotted around the desert landscape.

Looking to chill out in the desert and looking for cheap flights? Compare flights to Dubai and flights to a number of other Middle Eastern destinations to help you plan your holiday.

The Only 7 Star Hotel in the World

By Pankaj Gupta

A seven star hotel is considered a synonym for grandeur, class and style. Offering luxuries like limousine service, private transfer for all guests via private golf cart, private butler service and just about anything else that is being associated with vanity. These days, savvy and wealthy globetrotters, demand for caviar, personal butlers and Bentley and more tasty accommodation morsels as they prefer to travel (and rest) in style when it comes to bedding heads for the night. Seven star hotels accomplish all this.

There is an official body with standard criteria for classifying hotels in some countries. While most countries check their hotel rating systems at five, very few use six or seven star ratings, claiming to be the most beautiful and prestigious hotels in the world. At present there is only one seven star hotel in the world, though there are a few more under construction. Start planning your vacations now and be the first to see some of the amazing architectural wonders.

The Burj- Al- Arab in Dubai, the only Seven Star hotel began in 1994 and was modeled after the sail of a famous Arabian ship. The appearance was created by using Teflon-coated fiberglass and white materials that resemble a mast when viewed from a distance. The hotel is an architectural masterpiece. The foundation was constructed on an artificial island and the hotel is home to the world's tallest atrium. While the Burj- Al- Arab likes to believe it is the world's only seven-star hotel, it is officially known as a five-star deluxe hotel on the standard star system.

The Burj Al Arab is the only, "Seven star" hotel bearing a resemblance to a billowing sail, the hotel ascends to a height of 321 meters, overlooking the Dubai coastline. It is an unforgettable sight at night, surrounded by maneuvered color sculptures of water and fire. This all-suite hotel with the floor to ceiling glass windows viewing breathtaking Arabian Gulf reflects the finest that the world has to offer.

Designed to offer most comfort, unique service levels with chauffeur driven Rolls Royce, discreet in-suite check in, private reception desk on every floor and a brigade of highly trained butlers who provide around-the-clock attention, you can be assured of a highly personalized service throughout your stay. The hotel offers the highest levels of personalized service in the most luxurious surroundings imaginable, while the butler will ensure that every little need is met.

Surrounded by white beaches and the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, one can choose from a variety of activities while staying at Burj-Al-Arab. Alternatively, there are unlimited amenities for recreation and entertainment; be it spacious airy gymnasium boasting the very latest in equipment and with personal trainers on hand or unlimited complimentary access to Wild Wadi Water Park for water sports, accessible via a complimentary buggy drive or short walk.

Chartering an Airplane - The 5 Top Benefits

By Rufus Steele

The benefits of chartering an airplane far outweigh any cons in the majority of cases. Some people will argue that it's expensive, or excessive, or unnecessary. But I hope that the information and ideas suggested in this article show you why, in fact, it is very necessary!

The benefits of chartering an airplane include things such as privacy, security, comfort and flexibility. Let's look at a few of those a little more closely.

Privacy

There are no screaming children, coughing and hacking neighbors, overtly happy people heading off on holiday with their friends and all talking too loudly. No scrambling to your seat and getting up and down for others if you are unlucky enough to end up with an aisle seat, no old lady next to you hogging your elbow room.

But more importantly for business users or others who want to have an uninterrupted conversation without fearing of being overheard, you are free to discuss business or knock about a few ideas with your significant other with no embarrassing repercussions. Sensitive business can be discussed with no fear of leaks or competitors overhearing and no fears of sensitive corporate information being heard by all and sundry. In some industries - this is a serious consideration that can make travel time a complete waste of time as far as working goes.

Luxury

Private air charter can be the epitome of luxury and class. Think of commercial air flights as being a run of the mill taxi cab, and a private charter jet as a plush stretch limo. Some are even more luxurious than a limo! Believe it or not (and it does take some believing, I grant you!) but it is quite possible to find things such as living suites, gyms, spa's and sauna's, full double bedrooms and other things that the 'filthy' rich like to spoil themselves with being built into private jets more and more every day.

Granted, they have to be built into the larger jets as opposed to the small to mid size airplanes but to some - buying a 747 and kitting it out to their specification is not a problem at all.

Have to say - I'm unlikely to ever see one of those from the inside, can't quite stretch to renting one of those jets.

Flexibility

Not only can you avoid border hassles when flying internationally, you can generally charter a private jet with very little notice. It's not unknown for jets to be available to rent in an hour. (Special cases here mark you - don't bank on this speed of response as being the norm or the doable in every case!)

Private airplane charter services do not tend to own a whole fleet - they, like everyone else, arrange a jet for you from 'A N Other' company or owner. They work as the middle man between you and the owner, taking care of your arrangements and requirements. They give you flexibility that you do not normally have when it comes to renting a plane.

This is part of the beauty of flying a private charter - it can free you from dependence on travel agencies and commercial air companies. Not to mention you get to avoid those long, long and nasty lines for boarding, and those little extras we have to endure now, things like taking off your shoes and having your bags extensively searched and not being able to take bottle of drink through security. (I'm seriously miffed at that one - how much % mark up did the shops on the other side of security add to the price when THAT rule came into play!?) Flying private can free you from all of those little inconveniences. Hell, wander onto your charter plane with a Jack Daniels and coke in your hand and see if anyone says anything - apart from suggesting you put it down whilst trying to put your seatbelt on!

Comfort

Flying private isn't just about reaching your destination. It is also primarily about enjoying your traveling experience, and being comfortable on the journey. I'll make you a promise right here and now - the first time you bite the bullet and decide to charter a private flight will be an unforgettable trip for you, something that you will both think back on with great memories as well as talk about often! It just makes traveling fun again!

One on One service, comfy seats with leg, knee and elbow room, quiet and calm environment and no waiting for whatever you want (apart from the preparation time that is!). Sheer comfort and luxury.

Image

Another of the great benefits to chartering an airplane is the impression you can make on others.

Not only can you impress clients, you can also pamper employees and give them incentive to work all the harder for you. You can highlight yourself as being different to clients, and build closer relationships by inviting them on a private charted business trip overseas with you.

It is just an all around excellent way to travel, and given the choice why would you want to fly in that commercial taxi when you can fly in that luxurious limo instead?

As you can hopefully see there are many benefits to chartering an airplane, including several possibly not mentioned here that you may not be aware of that are unique to you. Why not add them to this site about airplane charters at http://www.jet-rentals.info

Attractions in Cancun - Tourism in Cancun Explained

By Huzaili Aris

Nestled in the base of Mexico, situated in the state of Quintana Roo and lying on the coast is the flourishing tourism city of Cancun with a population of some 600, 000. This lovely city began its tourism trade in the 1970's and was further developed by American investors during the 1980's. It was then developed as a tourism destination and now boasts a flourishing tourism community. Many people from North America now call Cancun home in its idealistic tropical paradise settings. Hurricane Wilma extensively devastated the region in 2005 and a great deal of restoration as occurred in the aftermath to lift the pristine shorelines to their original beauty and the beaches are now much wider as a result.

The Cancun economy relies very heavily on tourism and is the number one source of revenue for the region. You will find the hotel area as being coastal in its location and takes on the appearance of the number seven if viewed from an aerial aspect. Within this shape is Nichupte Lagoon, being supplied by freshwater and offers many fun filled water based sports activities with equipment being available by day hire to all guests. Nightlife is available to those who wish to take in the party atmosphere with a large variety of places to entertain you.

To get to the older side of Cancun take one of the two bridges available to you to get across to the city itself and explore the wonders available to you in a more cultural setting, this area is less affect by tourism so you can explore the markets and take in the more "natural" ambiance of the older part of the city. You will discover here that nothing much has altered and you will be able to experience the people and cultures first hand. Then you can get a feel for the cultural flavor of this remarkable area.

You will find traditional foods to sample at a reasonably low cost, take your pick from the available bars, restaurants and local eateries. Bull fights put on daily show for your excitement and entertainment, and you will find less expensive shopping available to you in the older part of town.

Across the Yucatan peninsula you can explore and learn firsthand information regarding the ancient Mayan civilization and culture that once thrived here so long ago. The ruins of El Ray are located within the Hotel Zone with El Meco; a much more substantial site to be found on the mainland just outside the city limits on the road to Punta Sam. While just to the north of the city a more larger and interesting site exists for exploration the lives of these amazing people. If you are interested in day tripping, the lost city of Uxmal is recommended or perhaps even Xel-Ha.

Incorporated in the natural reserves are Xel_Ha and Xcaret, these are probably the most visited sites for tourists. Here you can explore and take in the natural sites while taking advantage of the available amenities in the shape of swimming with dolphins and exploring the local marine life. These two sites also offer a wondrous and natural eco-tourism with jungles and beautifully stretching sparkling beaches and awe inspiring coastlines. Set yourself plenty of time to take in the sites of this area and you will not be disappointed.

This wonderful and diverse tourism destination will remain high on the list of must-see and as long as care is taken to preserve the natural wonders of this place, with humans working with nature it will remain a highly visited area with beautifully stretching coastlines and pristine beaches coupled with the tranquil blue waters of the Caribbean. Put this one high on your list of must go and see.

The Top 5 Cities to Visit in France

By Kieron Sellens

France is an amazing country with some truly wonderful cities. I've taken on the difficult and controversial task of narrowing the list down to a top 5 cities you should see on a luxury holiday in France.

Nancy

Nancy is a must visit on a holiday in France mainly because it carries an air of dignity and refinement rarely found in cities in England. As well as some lovely architecture and some fascinating museums, the city offers a sophisticated feel all the way to its shops which feel almost designed for window shopping.

Avignon

If you're looking to explore Provence, there's only one choice of where to book a hotel in France. Avignon is an old graceful city, full of jaw dropping art and architecture. The experience begins from the approach, when you take in the wonderfully preserved stone ramparts which circle the city, and won't end until you've seen the famous bridge (the Pond d'Avignon), the medieval fortress and the Palais des Papes (the papal palace). But perhaps the ultimate pleasure is people watching - now a thriving student city, it almost rivals Paris as a place to sit and watch the world go by. A must on any luxury holiday in France.

Lyon

When you're faced with a city the size of Lyon, you can be sure there's a huge amount of things to do to appeal to all tastes, and the city does not disappoint. As France's second largest conurbation, it's no surprise to see that the city contains outstanding art galleries and museums, a thriving nightlife, fantastic shipping and plenty of gourmet evenings out. If this all sounds too fast paced, there's also the historic old town, which has enough cultural significance to be designated a UNESCO heritage site. Lyon is essential for someone looking to experience big city life outside of the capital on their luxury holiday in France.

Strasbourg

Pretty and cosmopolitan, Strasbourg is a cultural haven, and a must-visit if passing through Alsace. You can feel the taste of Europe in so much of the city, from the European Parliament to the Franco-German TV network which bases itself here, and it's this welcoming international feel that makes Strasbourg such a great place to wander around. On top of that it has some splendid restaurants, cafes and excellent museums - all great ways to punctuate visits to the towering cathedral and old city. Just make sure that you're not looking for accommodation here when European Parliament is in session - you may need to look elsewhere in France for a hotel!

Paris

Paris really needs no introduction, and is the first call on most luxury holidays in France. The best thing about it is that it can be so many different things to so many different people - it's a shopping wonderland, a cultural epicentre, an architect's dream and the best place in the world to enjoy a gourmet meal. It's also got more iconic buildings and landmarks than many entire countries manage! All of these elements combine to ensure that Paris is the best city to visit in France, if you've somehow managed to miss it so far.

No doubt many people will disagree with my list, because a luxury holiday in France offers so many different things to different people. Whether you feel others should have been included or not, one thing is certain: all five of these places are well worth any tourist's time. Consider this list when you book a hotel in France, and the luxury holiday you have will be truly memorable.

Where Are You Going This Valentine's Day?

By Paul Mcindoe

Valentine's Day is undoubtedly the most romantic day of the year. And what better excuse is there for taking a night or two away from it all and perhaps even surprising your partner in the process?

As far as the men are concerned, booking a romantic meal at a quiet location can prove a wonderful way to treat the woman in your life. In addition, if you choose to surprise her with a romantic break, you could call ahead and ask for some champagne and chocolates to be left in the room for your arrival. She's sure to appreciate every little detail like this!

But the great thing is that you don't need to go too far afield to enjoy a night away from home for Valentine's. In fact, from doing a bit of research you may find that there are suitable locations for a break close by that won't take more than an hour or two to get to. That way you will have more time to enjoy your time away, rather than spending it on the motorway, which can spoil even the most well planned break, no matter how nice the venue itself might be.

If you manage to find somewhere really romantic, you could even keep the hotel itself as a surprise. Women love to be pampered and taken care of, so if you merely say you are going out for a meal (having smuggled an overnight bag in the car first of course) you can keep the surprise of the room until later on.

But the best part about staying away from home for Valentine's is simply that you will be able to spend some quality time together. And if you have busy working lives then this becomes even more important, as you can both wind down and enjoy each other's company.

Of course you won't want to stay in your hotel room for the duration of your time away. Plan to stay somewhere that is picturesque and charming if you can, and if you decide to plan a short getaway together, remember that you can still surprise your other half if you put some prior thought into it. Indeed, a woman might appreciate tickets to see a romantic film for example, whereas a man might enjoy having the chance to visit some kind of sporting occasion. Either way, make sure you pick activities that you will both enjoy in some way.

In the end, whether you keep it a secret or not, romantic breaks can really enhance your relationship and provide a romantic getaway from your normal everyday lives. And the best time to start thinking about it is now; leaving you plenty of time to plan the perfect surprise.
